A eleição da África! "The election of Africa!"

A Copa da África do Sul será a primeira a ser realizada no continente africano, a eleição foi o resultado natural da perda da África para sede da copa anterior, para a Alemanha, e graças ao rodízio de continentes estabelecido pela FIFA. Portanto de qualquer modo o continente seria a sede dessa copa.
Apesar de problemas como o pouco dinheiro a África do Sul foi escolhida como sede devido a sua infra-estrutura, ela foi considerada o país com melhores condições de receber o evento dentro do continente. Na votação, que ocorreu em 15 de maio de 2004, em Zurique, Suíça, ganhou de Marrocos e Egito por 14 votos contra 10 e 0, respectivamente. Líbia e Tunísia tiveram a reprovação da FIFA por causa da co-organização entre os dois países.
O mundial de 2010 será realizado entre 11 de junho e 11 de julho. Mais de duzentos países participaram das eliminatórias que definiram as 32 seleções participantes sendo que a seleção do país sede foi a única classificada automaticamente.
As cidades que sediarão os jogos são: Bloemfonteín, Cidade do Cabo, Durban, Johanesburgo, Nelspruit, Polokwane, Porto Elizabeth, Pretória, Rustenburgo.
De todos os estádios (que foram reduzidos de treze para dez devido ao estouro das contas), três já estavam praticamente prontos: Loftus Versveld, de Pretória, Royal Bafokeng Stadium, de Rustemberg, e Ellis Park, de Johanesburgo. Já Soccer City, em Johanesburgo, Free State, de Bloemfontein, e Peter Mokaba, de Polokwane foram totalmente reformados. Os outros quatro foram erguidos exclusivamente para receber a copa.

The cities that will host the games are Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Nelspruit, Polokwane, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, and Rustenburg.
Of all the stages (wich were reduced from thirteen to ten dur to accounts runnig out), three were already almost ready: Loftus Versveld in Pretoria, Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustemberg, and Ellis Park, in Johannesburg. Soccer City in Johannesburg, Free State in Bloemfontein, and Peter Mokaba in Polokwane have already been fully reformed. The other four were built exclusively to host the World Cup."
